"Save the Jersey" (do something nice) thread
Did everyone notice the post where Ross is auctioning his autographed Derrick Johnson Jersey to raise money for his aunt and uncle after losing their house and possesions to a fire. I doubt very seruously that he wants to part with that jersey. I am going to pitch in a hundred bucks and anyone that wants to help, I would like for us to try and win this auction and get it back to Ross. I dont have an ebay account but somone that does please step forward and lets see what we can do for Ross as an IT community. This is the season for helping and giving. If everyone pitched in a little bit we could help and save his jersey. As Jerry Lewis said, dont matter how much just pitch in a little. What say you all?

I just looked at the auction and there is only 5 days and 20 hours left so lets get the ball rolling here. Clendon chime in here bro. Hell, Ross is even shipping it for free. Dont want this to happen for our buddy Ross. The current bid price was like $102.00 or some silly undervalued amount. Lets help a Horn out. Clendon get us an address so I can get my money sent tomorrow. How should we do this and make it happen. H E L P!

I have an ebay account and would be more than happy to help out. What do we need the total to be?

I would love to help as well, but I'm not sure just winning the auction is enough. Without the right organization, that would just cause one person to donate that whole amount. Plus, the higher that price goes, the more he'll have to pay in fees to ebay. Maybe there's a better way?

The more who pays to ebay? eBay makes its money on the front end with the listing.

And with a percentage of the final sales price, I believe. At least that's the way it was the last time I sold anything on there. Which was, granted, over a year ago.

I never paid any percentage to eBay, other than listing cost and it's been over a year since I sold anything there. Regardless, if we coordinate, and it needs to be quick, we can win the auction and tell Ross to keep it.

From the ebay glossary:
Final Value Fee
A fee eBay charges to a seller when a listing ends. This fee is based on the “final value” of the item, which is the closing bid or sale price. The Final Value Fee is not charged if there are no bids on an item or the high bid did not meet the reserve price the seller set. See the Fees page to learn more about how the Final Value Fee is determined in different types of listings.

Thank you all. This means a lot.
I'm not concerned about the closing fees. I'll take care of that.
The best way to do this is to figure out amongst each other the exact total, then have one person bid that, which will likely top any of the bids going on in the auction by a wide margin.
...my questions is: which of y'all gets to keep the jersey?

I still vote we take this money and send it straight to Ross to avoid giving $20= to ebay. We'd have to make sure we actually WON the auction still though...
Or, I think he can take it down early.

Times are pretty tight in the real estate biz right now and I have a daughter coming any day now. I'll be able to swing something (not $100), but I'll have to get back later this evening. I'm hoping it's the thought that counts!
