Way off topic: Greatest Living Actor
I'm having beers with one of my best friends and he's telling me that his uncle is close friends with Robert Duvall. How I didn't know this is beyond me, but it sparked a debate.
Who is the greatest living actor?
They pose the same question for baseball players and the intelligentsia has been wrong since about forever. Joe DiMaggio over Willie Mays? Oh, ok.
But it's harder with actors. We've thought of Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, and Tony Danza, but who else is in the conversation?
I'm sure there will be a lot of Pacino and DeNiro fans but their recent work is the equivalent of Willie Mays with the Mets.
For the first guy that posts, "I can't wait for the season to start," know two things. I can't either, and my friend's uncle is Randy Braband, so it's sorta UT-ish.
I was a Paul Newman fan myself and dropped a tear of vinaigrette when he passed.

How bout Jack Nicholson...Dustin Hoffman...Clint Eastwood (although already mentioned)...Morgan Freeman...the proposed question is very subjective;however, you can't go wrong with any of these four...now for Tony Danza???? I'll let the rest of the boards rip into you on that one!!!

In terms of naturally playing a charecter Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, and Russel Crow are excellent.
I think that some of the non-stars are better on pure acting talent. Guys like Philip Seymor Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Ralph Fiennes, and John Tutoro really good.
I think they are nutjobs, but Daniel Day Lewis and Shawn Penn are really talented.
If I had to go with one, I would say Dustin Hoffman.

Great list. I'd go with Geoffrey Rush.
I do agree with others that Gary Oldman is a great actor and another guy that I always liked that isn't a fine actor is Harvey Keitel. Clint Eastwood is a great director. I've also liked some movies with Bill Murray as well.

Tom Hanks has to be up there for me.
Before he is dead, Dicaprio might have an argument for himself.

If only there was some sort of forum moderator capable of moving it.

I'll go with Robert DeNiro or Robert Duvall....I'm also a big Samuel L. Jackson fan.

Denzel Washington and Anthony Hopkins are two names that have to be on the list of greatest living actors.

If we were still alive, then the answer would be easy:
