IIT, I don't go in the alley at night but I want to protect my garden. They really haven't been too much of a problem so far, but I hate them and they must die.
Duke, I have a Jack Russell that I am crazy about. However, she sheds constantly so she isn't a house dog. I have a good setup with an electronic fence so she has plenty of room to run. They do make good mousers.

When I was a kid, my Dad hunted Bobcats with hounds. He brought several home, but they were in no condition to hunt mice.

My parents had a smooth-haired one, and he was great. They didn't handle him strongly enough so he barked constantly. But I loved his attitude and intelligence. You have a rough or smooth haired?

Crossman 760 pellet gun, old reliable.

I have one that is over 30 years old and still works. Has slain rabbits, muskrats, rats, birds and other assorted vermin.

Use the pointy pellets.

Why was SA's wife talking to you about my handle being longer than my arm?

Hmm, I don't really know. Her hair is short but it feels kinda rough. She was dropped in my neighborhood and I just adopted her. She was pregnant at the time and less than a year old. The vet who aborted the pregnancey said she probably wouldn't have survived the birth. Mine likes to bark, but I have worked with her a lot and she is barking a lot less. They are smart, easily trained dogs.

Thanks, Chigger. I didn't know a pump style was powerful enough to kill rats. And maybe it isn't for a DC rat. These suckers are big.

Did you think I was kidding when I recommended a pellet gun?

No, I responded to that. Chigger gave me a specific gun recommendation though.

.22 or .177 caliber?

I read on a website that the Beeman R9 is great, but then I looked it up and saw it cost almost $500.
