Identity Theft Question
My wife may have fallen into an ID theft operation recently. She received an email stating that her income tax return was rejected and she needed to call the IRS immediately to correct the situation. She looked at the website (IRS.COM iirc), called the number and inputted her PHUCKING SSN! The call center dropped her afater she entered her phone number. This happened recently so where do we go from here to best protect ourselves from these robbing bastards???
Thanks,
KG

Start at the credit bureaus. Then your bank and credit cards.

Contact the big three credit bureaus immediately so if anyone tries to apply for credit, they will be flagged.

Someone got one of my credit card numbers recently. The card company caught it quickly because they were using it for $1- $3 items which is not a pattern that my spending habits would fit. They put a pickup out on the card and issued me another card. It did cause me some problems where I had auto payments set up on that card such as the one at IT.
SA gave you good advice.

Thanks, guys. It looks like we'll be ok. We contacted our banks, lenders, the credit co's and bought life-lock. Hopefully we've done enough to keep those bastards away from our $/credit.

When things settle down & if you're up for it, you can do most of what Life Lock does on your own with a little legwork. It could save you some money in the long run.
