Default Buffalo Trace Bourbon

Always on the lookout for a "good bang for the buck" bourbon, so I picked up a bottle of Buffalo Trace recently for around $23. Definitely worth a taste and well worth the $.

Buffalo Trace is good, but if we're talking about bang-for-the-buck, it's all about Old Granddad.

And Old Grandma is all about being a buck-for-a-bang.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw your thread title.

I've enjoyed my share of the Buffalo over the years. Moreso in years past when I was a man of more limited means. If you don't feel like springing for, e.g., Maker's, Woodford, etc., the Buffalo is a quality value bourbon.

Not a bourbon, but Gentleman Jack is also very good for the price.

Haven't had OGD in years, but I know it gets talked up a lot on bourbon sites for being well worth the $. Might have to pick up a bottle and revisit the old man. When I had it years ago, it was at a party and I was already pretty drunk, so I didn't really get a legit chance to taste it.

Like the Woodford quite a bit -- another bourbon that competes well with others that are 2-3x its price, IMO. I can pick up Woodford at Trader Joe's for a little under $30. The Buffalo Trace is cheaper and just about as good, IMO. I also pick up my "mixing bourbon" at Trader Joe's -- Rebel Yell at around $13 a bottle.

Had a buddy from Kentucky who loved the MM. I think it's okay for the price.

Have you tried Bulleit? For under $20, I think it's legit. Kinda rough around the edges, but that's what I expect at that price.

Had some Pappy Van Winkle 20YO out of a friend's bottle a few nights ago. Nectar from the freaking gods.

I like the idea of Rebel Yell more than the taste.

I tried Bulleit, but didn't care for it.

Weller is another good, reasonably priced bourbon.

I've read many similar comments on other boards, i.e., that Weller is another good bang-for-the-buck bourbon. I've never tried it. I may have to rectify that in the near future.

I'd recommend drinking it, instead.
