Trey Graham

Texas brought in its second tight end for the Class of 2009 in Waco Midway's Trey Graham. The tall tight end is known for his speed on the field, but he's also a quick learner, both in the game of football and in the classroom.

Trey Graham, who gave the Texas Longhorns his commitment this week, stands an intimidating 6-5, 224, but is known much more for his quickness, both mentally and physically.

“Texas said my speed is a key factor,” said Graham. “I have the ability to stretch the field and block, too.”

His accomplishments in the classroom are a key factor as well.

“We're known for our academics here,” said Waco Midway head coach Kent Bachtel. “He has a grade point average of 98.5 (out of 100). He's an unbelievably sharp young man and an outstanding player.”

Bachtel also pointed out that Graham picked things up on the football field very quickly and said much of it has to do with his work ethic.

“He'd do everything I said with no problem,” said Graham. “I could tell him to something right now, lift this, take care of that and then run outside and run 15 100s. If I left the room and asked him to do that, he'd do it if no one was watching. He's just a great young man.”

Graham occasionally split out at receiver for Midway, but according to Bachtel, Texas plans to use him as a tight end as college.

“He's 6-5 or 6-6, 220 right now. He'll probably get as big as 260,” said Bachtel. “He's very strong and, along with great hands, he can really block.”

Graham said he's followed UT football for a long time and says it's a strong program, but there was another factor that went into his decision.

“Texas is a perennial Top 20 team...and Texas is a great academic institution,” said Graham.

Graham was a first team all-District 16-4A selection for the Panthers, who made the playoffs this past season. Graham was also chosen as a second team Super Centex selection by the Waco Tribune-Herald and was a second team Super Centex Academic selection as well.
