It’s Texas. No it’s Duke. No, Oregon. Maybe Kentucky. Wait, I mean
Kansas. Actually, it’s not any of those and this time we’re for sure.
On Tuesday, highly touted basketball recruit DeAndre Daniels of IMG
Academy in Florida announced his college decision and says he plans to
stick with it. The school of choice you ask? Not one of the ‘finalists’
everyone thought it would be. Instead, it was the Connecticut Huskies.
The long awaited and delayed decision came Tuesday afternoon and it was a surprise for everyone. The one-time Texas commit was recently thought to be favoring the Longhorns yet again and Connecticut was never mentioned once. Inside Texas reported last week that both Kansas and Duke were no longer in the running, but that Texas, Oregon and San Diego State had the best chances.
Daniels is a huge pickup for the Huskies, especially after losing Kemba Walker to the NBA, and should see playing time immediately. He'll join elite prospect Ryan Boatright in their 2011 recruiting class.
“DeAndre has taken full advantage of everything that IMG has to offer
and has continued to develop on the court, in the classroom and in the
weight room,” said IMG Director Andy Borman. “He is an extremely talented young man,
but what sets him apart from other talented kids his age is the fact
that he is extremely driven and focused on becoming the best player
possible. He is an immediate impact player at the next level.”
The 6-foot-7, 191-pound small forward is considered one of the best prospects in the nation regardless of position. ESPN Scouts, Inc. has given him a four star rating with grade of 95.
